    In Louisiana, both constitutional carry and permitted carry allow law-abiding individuals to carry a concealed firearm — but there are important differences.

    Constitutional Carry (Permitless Carry): This allows eligible adults (typically 18+ who can legally possess a firearm) to carry a concealed handgun without needing a permit or formal training. While this makes carrying more accessible, it also comes with limitations — especially when it comes to where you can legally carry.

    Permitted Carry (Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit – CHP): This requires completing a state-approved training course, submitting fingerprints, and passing a background check. While it takes more effort upfront, it provides several key advantages:

    • More places you can legally carry (including certain areas restricted under constitutional carry)
    • Reciprocity with other states that recognize Louisiana permits
    • Stronger legal protection, such as exemptions to federal school zone restrictions
    • Professional training on firearm safety, laws, and real-world scenarios

    Bottom line: Just because you can carry without a permit doesn’t always mean you should. A Louisiana CHP offers more freedom, better legal coverage, and the confidence that comes with proper training.

    You will need a reliable handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition, eye and ear protection, and a valid driver's license or state ID. If you do not own a handgun yet, we have rentals available for a small fee.

    No, you do not need to own a gun. In fact, taking the class first is a great way to learn about different types of firearms before making a purchase. We have rental guns available for use during the range portion of the class.

    A Louisiana concealed handgun permit is valid for five (5) years from the date of issuance. We also offer lifetime permits, which require a different application process and fee structure through the state.

    You must be at least 21 years old (or 18 for certain military personnel), a resident of Louisiana, pass a background check, and successfully complete a state-approved firearms training course like the one we offer.

    We require at least 48 hours notice for cancellations to receive a full refund or to reschedule your class. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the class start time are non-refundable.

    Classroom instruction takes place at our main facility in Walker, LA. The live-fire range qualification is conducted at a local private range located just a few minutes away.
